Would You Use This blog?
In the few minutes of spare time I've had in the last month, I've been working on a handful of style templates for the blogging application on which hinkybox.com is loosely based.
I think it looks okay - question is, would the average person with rudimentary HTML and PHP skills choose something that looks like this as the jump off to a personal blog? I think the idea is to provide a plain vanilla interface, and I guess this is my idea of plain.

Be honest, if you please -- I am looking for constructive criticism. :-)
Update:
I have officially become a part of the wheatblog development team, ostensibly as the Minister of Pleasing Appearances. My development branch can be found at this URL:

Looks good to me, and i should know ive used the web for years, thers not a thing i now dont know about porn....this is about porn isnt it....damn nope wrong website...urr yer blog wheaty thing.....looks good to me, maybe the right hand tool bar needs work, make headers bigger and more pronounced. Average users are stew pid and need to be directed with all the subtlty of a naked sumo wrestler who has 'over here dumbass' tatooed on his arse

I think you should give it up now! Stop I tell you... umm hold on a minute I thought it said obstructive critisism not constructive. Silly me.
I like it Josh. I think Keef has a point though. I'd say simpler and brighter (orange is always good you know).

Simpler within the confines of the stylesheet ya think?
Technically, I can't change the markup, you see -- that is why the post display part seems willy-nilly at the moment, as I haven't quite attacked that part.
Man-o-man, you asked why I am not a pro at this Bubs? This is why -- I can never seem to pull it together!
But I keep trying -- I think that is the definition of a hobby. :D/

Hrmm -- the toolbar is, conceptually at least, doomed to appear outside of the main body <div>. :-? So Keef, when you say that the toolbar needs work, elaborate, my man -- if the shit's gotta go, its gotta go. Maybe I can swing it around to the right and see what comes of it. Worth a shot, eh?
P.S. - Bubs - I tried orange, it is far too neederlanderish for me. For some reason, I associate strong orange (#F70) with old bong water. Go figure, eh?
Oh, except your site, of course, which evokes spring chamomile and whatnot. . .

I dunno what they're whingeing about, Josh. I like it - elegant, smooth and clear.

Yeah, but I asked for it, Mr Gone. Welcome back from your trip, I hope you got to see some of the less seedy bits of the deep south. ;-)

'Twas all good, Josh - seedy is just as interesting as posh. :D

I dunno, I've been to Mississippi in July -- God help me if it isn't a stone's throw from hell-on-earth. ;-)

I think the toolbar works better on the left....your right?
The headers seem to stand out more....but my memory is fading so i have no idea what it looked like before....all that bong water i drank as a kid i guess!
damn now i feel like linus torvald with alzheimers

Ahh, Mr. Keefer, good to hear from you, Cap'n.
Yeah, I put some work in on the code to allow me to shift it pretty much wherever I damn well please -- on this particular template, it is gonna be on the left. In future stylesheets, it might be horizontal, who knows. :)

In response to your question 'would you use this blog?'
my answer is, frankly, no.
Oh hang on a minute its a trick Q isnt it because by replying i have actually commited myself to using the thing....aha mr josh you are more cunning than a sackfull of cun........hmm maybe thats not an acceptable analogy

Why's it been so quiet Josh?? I ain't seen no posts from you and I ain't seen yew in chat?
16 josh said on Wed Dec 31 23:00:01 EST
But in all seriousness, I have been pretty busy with school and work stuff, and the time betwixt I have been putting into wheatblog.
That and I just don't feel like talkin', I guess. I'm in one of my moods.

'fraid so, old chap. I dunno what it is, but I just can't deal with being beholden to yahoo for long periods of time. I know it probably seems pretty rash, but you can always get in touch with me here. :-) I appreciate you still popping in as you do, bubs.
And to a lesser extent, Keeefer.
Kidding of course. ;-)

21 josh said on Wed Dec 31 23:00:01 EST
I guess you aren't familiar with how we handle accosters in the New World, are you?
Especially ones that like to expound on the stupidty of murkans with such fervor.
(Oh yeah, I'm still reading)
